Is the FBI targetting Conservatives?

Today, I’m not looking at China or giving opinions on it just going to explain a little bit about why the US is so divided that they need just one thing in their system to be cohesive about — they can’t agree on Ukraine, that much is clear, it has massive anti-war protests that don’t get much reportage but they are there, even George Soros admitted that Republicans are against the war and not likely to support more funding for it — their media isn’t reporting that either but there’s division, no doubt about it.
There’s only one aspect of politics in the USA that has complete and bipartisan support and that’s the anti-China rhetoric
Why would that be?
In the USA, right now, crime is rampant and on the increase, gun deaths and gun ownership are climbing through the roof, 2023 so far, is the worst year on record for gun violence. Health is in crisis mode with over 90,000 drug overdoses a year. Biden’s Build Back Better collapsed at the first hurdle, trains are crashing, balloons are being shot at and education is not only so expensive that many can’t afford it, it’s not giving the US the edge they once had as China overtakes them in science, tech, health and even in the University rankings where Beijing’s Tsinghua has overtaken MIT as the best engineering and the best Computer Science school in the world, then if we look at MIT, almost 10% of their students are Chinese anyway.
So, what’s really going on in the USA?
According to Republicans, the FBI has a lot to answer for, they’re abusing their power and being used as a tool of oppression by the Biden administration. Let’s find out what they’re alleging and why.
The US has a system of checks and balances called “Separation of Power”, in theory, this ensures that government, which makes laws, can’t interfere with their enforcement nor the legal interpretation or imposition of them. This is a good system which prevents government silencing opposition by abusing law enforcement powers.
The problem is, according to a 1050-page report supported by Jim Jordan, a Trump supporter and Chair of the House Committee on the Judiciary, that’s exactly what’s happening right now.
Whilst the report criticises both the Department of Justice (DoJ) and the FBI, it is FBI Director, Christopher A Wray, who is subjected to most of the criticism. Wray was, ironically, appointed by President Trump and remains Director of the FBI.
Wray has spoken about the Mar-a-Largo raids but hasn’t said much, it’s a matter of sub-judice so it’s unlikely he will. But, as Director, it’s inconceivable that he would not have been aware of this unprecedented raid on the residence of the President who appointed him, and almost certainly would have given his approval.
There are many reasons why Republicans are dissatisfied with the FBI: one was the investigation into Hilary Clinton’s emails which weren’t, in their opinion, investigated properly; another, they feel, is that the FBI sought to discredit Trump in the run up to the 2016 election by investigating his connections with Russia, which Trump denied and now seem to be untrue.
While Republicans believe there were genuine reasons to prosecute Clinton, there appeared to be no reason to pursue Trump yet the FBI dropped the Clinton case while investigating “Russiagate”. For these reasons, Trump, when he took office fired Director Comey, a Democrat appointment and then appointed Wray a few months later. Four years later, Hunter Biden’s laptop caused a similar controversy; which, it’s now believed, after an admission by Zuckerberg that the FBI suppressed in social media.
This Report may well be considered a spurious Republican effort to harm the reputation of Democrat’s law enforcement efforts or it could be a reliable source of valid information, depending on the political leanings of the reader but one thing is certain, it highlights serious divisions inside the USA.
Immediately upon inauguration, the Biden Administration commenced an investigation into Domestic Terrorism, now redefined as Domestic Violent Extremism (DVE). This Report claims that since the investigation, statistics are manipulated to increase the amount of DVE and justify increases in FBI powers against what Republicans purport are opponents to the Administration: more specifically, conservative Americans are being targeted as domestic terrorists.
There have certainly been investigations and prosecutions into right-wing groups such as the Pro-life group, Jane’s Revenge; the Three Percenters; Oath Keepers and Proud Boys, all right-wing militia who believe they have a right to form and operate under the Second Amendment. These groups are featured in many reports and there have been many convictions from within them, particularly in relation to the January 6th riots.
A main thrust of the Report is based on the premise that DVE is being manipulated by the Biden Administration as a means to enhance its control over the Department of Justice, the FBI and therefore the American population. The report suggests that DVE is being applied to crimes which do not fit the criteria and the number of DVE offences are being over-exaggerated to support a more authoritian approach. Indeed, there is a White House statement suggesting that Domestic Terrorism (now DVE) is the greatest threat facing the US.
An interesting contradiction now exists: The Second Amendment talks of a “Well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state” but the Report suggests, Democrats are using the FBI to prosecute members of several well-disciplined militia, who happened to arm themselves when they felt their process of democracy was taken from them.
The Report further suggests the FBI and DoJ didn’t place as much emphasis on the BLM riots of a couple of years ago but fails address that January 6th was a direct assault on the seat of government while BLM was civil disorder, related to disenfranchisement.
Whilst this topic will be the source of many academic investigations in the future, it is clear that the USA is a divided nation along the lines of one large group believing the election was stolen and an equally large group believing it was legal. However, an even larger group encompassing both sides of the political spectrum believe that democracy has failed. Yet, when militia was (legitimately in their opinion), formed and travelled to their capitol in opposition to the government, that government not only prevented them asserting what they thought was their rights, but used the dual arms of the DoJ and the FBI to criminalise their activities.
If we are to think that Trump’s loss is all that divides the USA, then a deeper look into this report is necessary, there’s more, a whole lot more.
The Roe-Vs-Wade Supreme Court overturn polarised the nation. Attacks on abortion clinics are as common as attacks on pro-life centres, but criticism of the FBI, from the right is rife, because attacks on abortion clinics are being categorised as terrorism by the Department of Justice. This Report alleges those crimes of attacks on Pro-life centres are carried out by left-wingers but are treated as less serious crimes. This may be sensationalism as the FBI do investigate both sides of the issue but FACE, that is Freedom of Access to Clinical Entrances is definitely treated more seriously and abortion remains one of the most divisive issues in the USA today.
Other things that divide the nation are Wokeism and Critical Race Theory (CRT) and again, this 1050-page report has a lot to say about these matters. Again, it is Republican supporters getting labeled as extremist because they refuse to accept these matters inside their schools and communities. According to the Report, ordinary mums and dads are being placed on terrorism watch lists just because “they have a lot of guns”. The report doesn’t mention gun crime, but then again, it wouldn’t as many Republicans are big supporters of guns.
To say the US is divided would be to simplify matters, one look at this extensive Report and it’s clear the US is not just divided, it is irredeemably torn apart and there appears to be nothing on the horizon of 2024’s elections which is likely to heal these rifts, in fact, we may find the exact opposite.
